Default how can i view my Word document without tables, charts, rulers etc

I want to edit a webpage in Word, but there are SO many
marks, lines,and other 'clutter',that I can't tell what/ where the original
document even IS!! I'm using MS Office for only enjoyment purposes, so I
don't think I'll use many of the 'business-related' features in Word. Am I
right? (ugh!!)
Can I customize these features to suit my needs? I am more interested in
graphics- word art, stationery, backgrounds, fonts
etc. Knowing that, is Word the correct choice for me? If not,can someone
please tell me which Office 2003 app.is more appropriate?

Turn off the display of nonprinting characters ("formatting marks"), text
boundaries, and table gridlines, and see if that helps. Of course, you may
have more trouble working with the text without knowing what's what.

For the first two: Tools | Options | View. For gridlines, Table | Hide
Gridlines.
