Default linking SharePoint Contacts with Exchange / Outlook

We have setup SharePoint 2.0 with a Contacts list.
We have also linked it to our Exchange / Outlook
vis the "link to Outlook" link on the SharePoint List.

Question -
How is the mapping of fields handled & determined ?
Is it only field names that match the default ones in the Outlook Address
Card,
or is there some "mapping" definition in SharePoint that can be modified ?

ie - for Mobile Phone - the only way for it to show up correctly in Outlook,
was to actually add a "description" of Mobile Phone to the SharePoint
column,
even though the title of the column was already Mobile Phone
otherwise Outlook was showing the SharePoint Mobile Phone as the Outlook
Business Phone.

It's interesting in Outlook to go to a screen that will list all the fields
of an address contact
(click on entry card - click on tab All Fields - click on pull down All
Contact Fields)

Then see all the mapped fields... like Phone 1 Selected / Selector thru
Phone 8 Selected / Selector,
but have no way of figuring out the magic of where Outlook is being told
which fields to grab from SharePoint 2.0

BTW - I can't get the Outlook "Home Address" field to populate from
SharePoint,
even by including a SharePoint column "description" called Home Address.
It seems Outlook still reverts to - Address Selected = the actual address +
Address Selector = "Business"

and the final little tidbit -

The Outlook Contact screen is DIFFERENT between Outlook 2007 vs Outlook 2003
The Outlook 2007 version shows the basic mappings correctly,
while the Outlook 2003 version is missing stuff !!

Default linking SharePoint Contacts with Outlook 2003/2007

I struggled with this a bit too. A default SharePoint contact
list only has a few fields when compared to all of the fields
available in Outlook itself. I'm using Outlook 2007, and there are
over 15 phone number fields available alone. I tried adding the
"Business 2" phone number field to my SharePoint contact list, but it
was not linked to Outlook.
After poking around a bit, I found that if, from the "List
Settings" screen, you choose "Add from existing site columns" instead
of "Create Column" the field will align to Outlook. Hope this helps.
