I've been using publisher for a long time, but today whenever I try to print
something, I get this error message. I'm running windows 98.

What version Publisher?
Have you checked the web site of the printer's manufacture for an updated driver?
It is always advisable to completely remove the printer driver before installing an
updated driver or reinstalling the old.

I'm not sure I understand......would it be the printer and not the publisher
program that is the problem?

If you have been using Publisher for a long time as you say and you are only getting
this error when you go to print, then either your driver is failing or needs
updating.

I'm kind of a computer dummy, so I think I better get some help on this one.
I do have access to a couple of people who are computer savvy, so I will ask
for their help. Thank you.

We updated the driver, and that worked for a minute (one printing job), but
then it went right back to the error message. I can't print word documents
either unless I just click on the printer icon. I can't print certain pages
or numbers of copies from the file button in publisher or word. Would the
video driver make any difference? I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling
office, but still the same. Any other suggestions would be most helpful.

When you receive the general protection fault what module does it specify? In other
words what is the entire error?

The message says: MSPUB caused a general protection fault in module
3DFX16V3.DRV at 0008:00000258
I can still print single copies if I just click on the printer icon, but if
I click on file, and try to select certain pages to print, or print more than
one copy, I get the error message.
When I try to print a word document, I can print a single copy by clicking
on the printer icon, but again, if I click on the file button, it just
freezes up and won't do anything.
The other weird thing is that now when I go to open anything in Publisher, I
have to put the Disc in. I'm not sure what's going on!

It is your video driver.
This addresses Windows XP, but it probably is relevant to your issue.
Display Problems with 3Dfx Voodoo Video Cards
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;309913

Office programs that have a Voodoo3 driver installed stop responding (hang) and you
receive error messages
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;300912

Here again you will have to go to NVIDIA to see if they have an updated driver.

Most times when you are asked to insert your setup disk, Office is trying to repair
something.
