Publisher has problem finding printer
Hi,
Publisher has a problem printing on network. Sometimes it just comes up saying: "Publisher cannot print due to a printing problem Press f1" And gives no indication what the error is. Other times it says it can't find the printer (even though printer is listed in print set up box) The Printer is HP cp 1700 and has latest printer drivers and printer has name less than 8 chars long with no spaces. (response to earlier message posted) We also found if we saved work to another directory of network it would print. Any help would be really appreciated. |

Publisher has problem finding printer
Could be your printer setup. Here's what I went through:
For several years my HP DeskJet 970Cse printer was on Lpt 1. Then to get my computer back, got one for my daughter and shortly after created a network off the DSL modem/router. Because anytime my daughter wanted to print something my computer had to be on. (daughter is in middle school - homework!) To make the printer independent of both computers, put it on the network. Then at times 'got similar printing difficulties where the printer refused to operate either from my computer and my daughter's computer. It was getting close to put the printer back on my computer when by chance had a hard drive problem where defrag just wouldn't run on the IBM C drive ('have three SCSI hard drives, each single partition). The IBM Tech didn't think the drive was at fault and suggested getting System Mechanic to find and fix the problem. It did (good program) AND during an analysis run reported my printer was assigned Lpt 1 and the Network path. It also asked if it should remove the Lpt 1 path. I said yes and it's been smooth sailing ever since. Could be the reason for your printer problem. -- Don -------- Vancouver, USA - One of the great cities in one of the 45+ countries in the Americas!
