Default Why can't I open excel attachments from outlook?

I can open up the spreadsheets if I save them to Excel. (Then I have Excel
opan and Outlook open.) I can open up other files from Outlook(huge acrobat
files). It says there is a memory problem and out of resources, but it does
not make sense as many other files can be opened. I've tried detect and
repair and that has not been successful. I tried reinstalling Office.
