Default Word table: How do I know which cells have been merged?

I received a table that merged cells. I need to be able to sort, but can't
because of the merged cells. How can I tell which cells are merged? The
table is huge, over 200 pages.

Suggest you copy it into Excel, do the sort there, then copy it back to
Word. Excel is less fussy about such things.

Do you find it so? I find that Excel won't sort if any cells have ever been
merged, even if the rows from which they came no longer exist.
