Default booklet printing on 11 X 17

How the heck do I print a multi-page booklet on 11 X 17 paper, landscape
orientation, from Publisher? I'm resubmitting this question because I think
my early question may not have been clear.

A previous post asking the same question elicited this response from Ed
Bennett, but following these directions does not work.

"a) You need to set up your publication to print booklet 11x17 (I'm assuming
your printer can print 11x17)
Go to File Page Setup Printer and Paper, and set your printer to 11x17.
Then go straight back to the Layout tab and set the layout to Booklet.
b) You need to set up your printer to print double-sided. This is a
function in your printer driver. Go back to Printer and Paper, click
Properties, and search for a double-sided printing option

We have printed many booklets on 8.5 X 11 paper using exactly this
procedure, but when we try to do it large format in Publisher, the 'booklet
printing' option is grayed out and the information icon advises that this
paper can only be used with one page per sheet. Our printer is HP 8550 full
duplexing, color laser and I have printed large format, 4 page newsletters,
from WordPerfect many times.

The document lays out perfectly on screen, has appropriate page #'s and
looks fine in print preview.

Working on deadline and would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Johnell

I use Publisher 2000 so some of this may be a bit different than the version
you are using.
(If you are using 2000, get the 3 SRs and install them).
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/of...699551033.aspx

First you have to do a File, Print Setup.

Select your paper size (11"x17") Horizontal OK

Next, select the File, Page Setup, Special Fold, Booklet OK (this may be
said differently in your version)
Publisher will ask you if you want 4 pages - Yes.

Good luck,

Johnell was very recently heard to
utter:
the 'booklet printing' option is grayed out and the information icon
advises that this paper can only be used with one page per sheet.

This "Booklet printing" option sounds like a function in your printer driver
for duplex printing (and the warning is nothing to do with Publisher, and
everything to do with your printer driver).

Once you have your printer configured for 11x17 printing, setting Publisher
up to create a booklet layout is as simple as selecting "Booklet" in the
Layout tab. It looks like you've already got that working.

Have you got the latest drivers for your printer from hp.com?

Ed,

We do have the latest drivers and are able to duplex and print on 11 X 17 in
other apps, i.e. WordPerfect. I'm still pecking away at this.

Thanks,

Johnell

Publisher is VERY picky about printer drivers. Just because another program
is happy with them, doesn't mean Pub will be.

The newest driver HP has for his printer is 2004. My HP is older than the
poster's, I only have to designate the size paper and the duplex action. There
is no booklet setup in the printer driver, only the option to flip pages up.
