Default Search and Replace in tables

is word capable of performing a search and replace within=20
tables in a word doc? for example, i'm trying to search=20
each instance of (=B0 C) and replace it with (=B0C)

within the document it finds the string as long as it is=20
not in a table.

Provided the tables are not in text boxes, Find should find the text. I'm
not sure about wrapped tables, but since they appear to behave as if they
were in frames, this should not affect Word's ability to search them.

Word will find text in Tables in textboxes (and indeed anywhere else in the
document) if the search direction is set to ALL. If the direction is UP or
DOWN the search is restricted to the MainStory.

I realize that, but if you interrupt the search in any way (for example, if
you're stepping through the document and step out of the dialog to make a
change), the direction is automatically reset to Down, so this is a common
problem.

I don't get that behaviour. My search is set to All, and stays that way.
Stepping out of the dialog, eg to edit the document, doesn't change it.
Perhaps it's a quirk of using the scrollbar search (which I never do)?

It definitely happens if you use the scrollbar buttons; I'll have to test it
with the actual dialog. I know that if I start a search and interrupt it for
unrelated corrections, when it gets to the end it asks me if I want to start
over at the beginning (even if I was at the beginning when I started).

There are certainly mysteries in the workings of Find and Replace! With the
setting at ALL, interrupting the search can cause it to restart from the
beginning of the document -- but the ALL setting remains unchanged.

The puzzle that annoys me is that about once a week, for no reason I can
see, my Find format gets set to underline. It's not something I ever choose
because I never use underline anyway; and I'm not aware of any shortcut keys
that would do this by accident ... just one of those things, I guess.

I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing that! I do occasionally search for
underlines (but only to test scenarios for users, since I never use
underlines personally), but that does not explain the times that this
happens. If you happen to press Ctrl+U while the insertion point is in one
of the boxes, you'll get that result, but I'm confident I haven't done that,
either.
