Shared Contacts and Distribution Lists
My boss' contact folder and subfolders have been set to be shared with me. He asked me to add a couple of contacts to a distribution list for him, but when I click on select members, his contact list isn't displayed as an option. I also tried clicking and dragging into the list, but that didn't work either. Is there some way I can do this, or does it have to be done from his own mailbox/login.
Thanks! |

Shared Contacts and Distribution Lists
The process of adding another user's Contacts folder to your own address
book display is somewhat involved: 1. Start with a profile that logs directly onto the other user's mailbox, not your own. 2. On the Properties dialog for the other user's Contacts folder, make sure that it's set to display in the Outlook Address Book and give it a display name other than contacts, such as Joe's Contacts. 3. Close Outlook. 4. In Control Panel | Mail, edit the *same profile* to change the mailbox from the other user's to your own. On the Advanced tab of the Exchange Server service, add the other user's mailbox as a secondary mailbox. 5. Restart Outlook, and you should see the Joe's Contacts in your Outlook Address Book as well as your own Contacts folder. -- Sue Mosher, Outlook MVP Author of Microsoft Outlook Programming - Jumpstart for Administrators, Power Users, and Developers http://www.outlookcode.com/jumpstart.aspx "GLewis" wrote in message ... Shared Contacts and Distribution Lists
As best as I can tell, I have done what you have suggested. What I am not understanding is that I can get to all his contacts and subfolders from my mailbox, but they are not coming up in my address book list.
For instance, my outlook opens and in addition to MY mailbox, "Boss" mailbox is in the folder list. Boss' contacts and subfolders are listed under his mailbox. I can edit contacts, etc, but cannot see them in MY address book, so cannot select members from the contacts for a distribution list. I am using Windows XP and Outlook 2003. |

Shared Contacts and Distribution Lists
I am not sure if this came from the same thread but it seemed to apply to
the same topic. I am running Exchange 2000 and Outlook 2002 client on the workstation. I have shared one users contacts with another and followed your instructions however I am confused. The goal hear is to have (Account A) share it's contacts with (Account B) so that (Account B) can create distributions lists and or emails with both resources. However after selecting TO: or Add Members, to an (Account B)contact/Distribution list; the dropdown menu which contains my own contacts for (Account A) and the GAL do not list the contacts from (account A). I have already checked to see if the properties have a check mark in "show this folder as a contact from (Account B)"on the OAW Properties tab. I can see the address books in my folder list but no luck when going to TO: on an email or member add to a distribution list. The client is setup to see both accounts in the folder list with owner permissions granted to (Account A). How do I make the contacts in (Account A) visible in the dropdown of contacts in (Account B). Thanks in advance! "GLewis" wrote in message ... I'd suggest you start over with a new profile:
1. Start with a profile that logs directly onto the other user's mailbox (A), not your own (B). Shared Contacts and Distribution Lists
Still not working:
I did the following: I logged onto a machine with account A and made sure that the contacts, both the Default (contacts) and a sub contact folder (Sample Contacts) were selected to display in OAB. I then closed outlook and went to the Control Panel & selected Mail and changed the mailbox to account B. I then went to the Exchange Server Service and added account A as a secondary mailbox. After restarting Outlook I could see both mail boxes for account A & B and their contacts located in the Folder List. Each account has an Outlook today followed by all of the standard items in the Folder List such as; calendar, deleted items, contacts, etc. Unfortunately the problem still occurs, when I go to address an email message and select (TO, or create a distribution list and select (Select Members), the shared address book IE. (Sample Contacts) is not available from the drop down list. Only the GAL and account B's contacts are available. This will make it very difficult to share contacts and have more than one person edit these contact folders as well as creating distribution lists using contacts from 2 different accounts. Thanks for your help in advance. "Sue Mosher [MVP-Outlook]" wrote in message ... I'd suggest you start over with a new profile: 1.
