Default Outlook Data File on Network Drive

If I set up outlook to store data on a network drive, and use the identical
setting for two pc's (my desktop and laptop) can I set up the laptop to have
a secondary, local data file when it is off the network?

i.e. Can I set it up so, when I try to use outlook somewhere other than at
home on my LAN, can I set it up so that Outlook accepts that it can't find
the regular drive path and simply creates a new/temporary data file?

Bad idea. Placing an Outlook Data File on a network drive is neither
recommended or supported.

In addition to what Russ has said, are you using an Exchange server? If yes, then you can create a .ost file to have offline access to your Exchange items when not connected to a network. However, placing a .pst file (fragile at best) on a network is a bad idea.
