I have never seen, nor used the AS xyz_ID_xyz statement before.
Furthermore, I cannot locate anything about it, though I have looked.

It is part of the normal SELECT syntax, although not always very well
described in the help files. It is used in two places:

a) giving an alias to a table, particularly when one table is used more
than once in a complicated join. Here is a more simple example:

SELECT a.FirstName, a.LastName
FROM ReallyStupidlyLongWindedNameForATable AS a
WHERE etc = etc...


b) giving an alias to a field name, either because there are two with the
same name, or for a calculated field:

SELECT p.PersonID,
COUNT(c.*) AS NumberOfChildren,
p.FullName AS ParentName
FROM People AS p
LEFT JOIN People AS c
ON p.PersonID = c.ParentNumber
GROUP BY p.PersonID, p.FullName

In this case, the p table stands for the parents and the c table is for
children.
