Default Word keeps changing my cross references

Im entered a lot of cross-referencing on a document and im on a final
read-through when i noticed instead of the paragraph number (eg 3.3.1), Word
has changed it to '0'. Ive gone back through and sorted all the
cross-referencing changes that word made only to find that word has changed
them all again.

It seems to be doing it slowly as well. stealthy.

Its damn annoying and im getting close to have to buy a new monitor for my
work if it carries on like this.

Any ideas???

How did you sort out the changes?

If you select the whole document and then press F9 to update the
cross-references, then do they "behave"?
