Convert 2000 PPT to 2003, still won't play sound in PPView
I read the KB Article 832039 and accomplished it to the
letter to "convert" my 2000 PPT to 2003. Then packaged it for CD autorun. All files are on the CD and in the root directory including PPView 2003. Runs but no audio at all. #832039 must be missing something. I see responses here for AVI's and MPEG's that appear to be workarounds, but I thought Article 832039 had been proved. I've made enough revisions to the program with it opened in 2003 and saved it with different names that it should have "made a complete transformation" to 2003 but the Viewer just won't connect the dots. Hmmmmm. It plays back beautifully in PPT 2003(Slide Show), but won't do it in PPView. Hope y'all can help. I'm down to the home stretch and deadline is tomorrow. (Guess I'll just have to go back to 2000 version and suffer the animation and speed losses.) Won't make my clients happy though. I know there is a way, but I haven't found it yet. Thanks for your help. |

First, make sure that you have applied Service Pack 1 to Office 2003.
Then try opening the presentation and deleting the sound files and then reinserting them. Then repackage and test. Does that correct the problem? "Bill C" wrote in message ... Thanks Sonia! I read your earlier post about doing that
but was hoping to get the job done without having to rework 120 slides (45 minutes run time). I tried it on just the first few (saved as a separate program) and it works fine. I cut your steps short by doing the following. I also went one step further than Article 832039 proposed and decided to move all associated voice clips and the PPT 2003 program from their original folder to a new one at the root of the hard drive. Then, I opened the PPT program there. Naturally I expected the original *.wma links to be bogus, which would cause PPT to produce dialog for me to upgrade the links as it did in 2000, but PPT 2003 searches for the clips and locates them instantly in the new folder. So, I ran the preview for a few minutes then saved the program with new name in the new folder. All done! I guess by doing that I simulated "new" audio insertions. Created the Package for CD with the "new" program and it runs smooooooooooth! Thanks. Bill -----Original Message----- First, make sure that you have applied Service Pack 1 to Office 2003. Actually, I think by doing that you broke the links, and PowerPoint will look
for the file at the link addres. If it can't find it, it will look in the "current" folder where the presentation is. In your case it found the files there. "Bill C" wrote in message ... Either that, or it's a path-length issue. Bill moved them to the root of the
harddrive, so path-length may have contributed. At any rate, it's good to know that it's working now! -- Echo [MS PPT MVP] http://www.echosvoice.com presenter, PPT Live '04 Oct 10-13, San Diego http://www.powerpointlive.com "Sonia" wrote in message ...
