Custom page numbers not showing up in TOC
I have a 100 page document; I have created custom page numbers using the
following code but the entire string does not show up in the TOC, only the page numbers (not the section numbers). I have tried to look at the code for the TOC but don't know enough to decipher the string. HELP! page number code: {section} - {page} TOC code: {TOC \o "1-4" \h \z \u} |

[I forgot to note earlier: Word 2003 - Windows XP]
I have experimented a great deal since making this original post but still cannot get the section numbers to appear in the TOC. I have modified the TOC code to read: {TOC \s section \o "1-4" \h \u} but this inserts all zeros in front of the page numbers - not the actual section number. Isn't there a way I can refer to the section-page number I have in the footer and have THAT appear in the TOC? Hi Helen,
You may want to also post this in the Word numbering newsgroup (link below). Both the /c and /s switches tie to the use of matching {SEQ} fields in locations in your document. For example, from Word 2003 help for "TOC field" ======== \s Identifier Includes a number such as a chapter number before the page number. The chapter or other item must be numbered with a SEQ field. Identifier must match the identifier in the SEQ field. For example, if you insert { SEQ chapter } before each chapter heading, { TOC \o "1-3" \s chapter } displays page numbers as 2-14, where "2" is the chapter number ============= "helen" wrote in message news [I forgot to note earlier: Word 2003 - Windows XP] I have experimented a great deal since making this original post but still cannot get the section numbers to appear in the TOC. Thanks Bob! I was headed down that road but your reply helped me to figure
out the solution! For folks reading this and looking for the solution here goes: I left my footnote page numbers as I had them originally. Then I marked just after each section break with the {SEQ section} code - this automatically numbered them for me and I added a label to 'pretty up' the number. Then I inserted the following TOC code: {TOC \o "1-4" \s section \h \u}. I also added the '\s section' switch to the Index code string.
