Default excel customized template

hi!

I've created one excel template for my user to key in.
I would like to restrict the user to key in value only to a certain cells
and not letting them to change the templates layout or add/delete
additional cell/row/column into that template. Can that be done?
If yes, pls let me know how to do that. Thks!

Hi David

it's achieved through worksheet protection
- first select the cells that you want your users to get to
choose format / cells, go to the protection tab and untick the locked check
box - click Ok
then choose
tools / protection / protect sheet ... if you're using version 2002 & above
you can play with the different settings but generally the defaults are
fine - if you don't want the users to unprotect the template then put a
password in (twice) ... click OK and test out your template.

also saving it as an actual template (file / save as / files of type =
template (*.xlt) ) will mean that they get a "clean" one everytime they open
it (file / new) and don't have to remember to "save as"

Cheers
