Calculated field not appearing in Table
Hi there,
I have the following fields: FY07/08, FY08/09, FY09/10 and Total_Budget. The "Total_Budget" field is simply a calculation of the other 3 (=[FY07/08]+[FY08/09]+[FY09/10]) and does not have a control source so does not show up on the table, but works fine in the form. I need to be able to add this field so that it shows up on the table (under "Total_Budget") too. Any support would be much appreciated. Thanks |

Create a query based on your table and put the calculation into it. Use this query in all theses cases where you need the calculated field. mfG -- stefan -- |

Calculations should not be stored in a table. There is no need to as you can
always calculate them on the fly using forms, queries or reports. "Yilmaz" wrote: Hi there, I have the following fields: FY07/08, FY08/09, FY09/10 and Total_Budget. Storing derived data such as this in your table accomplishes three things: it wastes disk space; it wastes time (almost any calculation will be MUCH faster than a disk fetch); and most importantly, it risks data corruption. If one of the underlying fields is subsequently edited, you will have data in your table WHICH IS WRONG, and no automatic way to detect that fact. Just redo the calculation whenever you need it, either as a calculated field in a Query or just as you're now doing it - in the control source of a Form or a Report textbox. -- John W. Vinson [MVP] |

Hi Stefan,
Thanks for the help. Sorry for the late response - have been sick for a while. "Stefan Hoffmann" wrote: hi Yilmaz, Yilmaz wrote: FY07/08, FY08/09, FY09/10 and Total_Budget.
