Default Resent system download update problems

Thurs day night I thought I would use the microsoft
system to check for any updates that I might need. I
performed the test and it up with three system upgrades
that it thought my system needed. I clecked download as
I have in the past and it began downloading and
Installing the updates. When it was through it said to
restart the computer and I did. Now my system.exe is
using 99~89% of the system and it will not let me get to
anyother program. If I try to click on a program it
takes about 4-5 min to react. I have restarted the
system and asked it to revert back to the last know
working system and this does nothing. Becuase the
system.exe is a critical part of the system I can not
stop it. Any ideas? This is an old gateway 350 system.
I know I need a new system but I need to get this one
running so that I can save all my documents and such.
Any Ideas?

This would be caused by a problem in the Operating System, not MS
Office. Please identify your operating system and post your question to
the Newsgroup that discusses that operating system.
