Alphabatizing Contacts

I have learned that by default, Outlook files names alphabetically by first name, and by going to Tools, Email accounts, etc you can change this setting to alphabetize by last name for all NEW names added; however how do you change the settings for all the existing emails (a couple thousand in my case) so that they too are alphabetized by last name?

Alphabetized where?
First you are talking about Contacts, then you talk about alphabetizing
emails. What do you mean?

Sorry, I mean alphabetizing contacts, and specifically when viewing them in category format (each person under the specific category is listed alphabetically by last name).

That view uses the File As... field for sorting. To change the File As field
for existing Contacts requires the use of code:
