Capacity of CUSTOM dictionary

In Word, I got a message that the custom dictionary was full. What is it's
capacity? When spell check finds an unknown word and underlines it in red,
is there any convenient way to add that word to a different custom dictionary?

Create a new custom dictionary and set it as the default (leaving the
original one activated).

If you are using Word 2000 or newer, and assuming that you have a
reasonable amount of memory on the system, the capacity of the custom
dictionary is larger than you are likely to need. (In Word 97 the
capacity may be limited to about 5000 words or 64KB, whichever occurs
first.)

The "dictionary is full" error message is a stupid default message
that is provided in response to any error at all that occurs when
trying to add a word to the custom dictionary.

One possible cause for the error message would be that you tried to
add a word containing a character that is not on the "code page" for
the language. (The custom dictionary is not a Unicode file.) You might
have tried to add a word containing more than 64 characters. You might
have tried to add a word containing punctuation other than hyphen,
slash, or straight apostrophe. (Allowed punctuation may depend on the
language.) I am sure that there are other causes even less well
documented.
