PDF Maker Icon on Word Toolbar
Just moved from one PC to an upgrade. Also from Word 2000 and Adobe 5.0 to Word 2003 and Adobe 6.0. Which were preinstalled on this computer.
On the new Word toolbar there's no Adobe PDF Maker button. I'd gotten used to it and don't like going the Print-Select Adobe route. I cannot find the PDFMaker.dot file anywhere on my C drive. Should/must I reload Adobe? |

Hi, TimSpeak. In Word, click on View | Toolbars. Is PDFMaker a choice, and is it checked? If not, click on Tools | Templates and Addins. Is PDFMaker.dot listed as a choice, and is it checked? If not, then reinstalling may fix the problem. You mention that both Acrobat 6.0 and Word 2003 were preinstalled, so you won't know which was installed first. Word must be installed before Acrobat in order for the Acrobat buttons to be installed into Word.

I just accepted the newest update today and now my Acrobat icon's no longer show up. Should I now uninstall both acrobat and word and reinstall word and then acrobat?
I seem to have this problem with word only as the icon has always shown up in my excel program. "garfield-n-odie" wrote: Hi, TimSpeak. In Word, click on View | Toolbars. I have taken Adobe Acrobat training and the instructor there stated that
Acrobat must always be installed LAST for those icons to appear. Any service packs this shouldn't be necessary but if Office was reinstalled...or if Acrobat came PREinstalled and then Office was installed...then Acrobat MUST be reinstalled to get the Icons on the office toolbars again. For the Adobe icons to appear in Word, the pdfmaker.dot add-in must be
installed in the correct Office startup folder. If Office/Word is installed after Acrobat then this folder may not be present and thus the add-in not installed. Locate the add-in in the Acrobat folder C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\PDFMaker and copy it to the correct folder, which for Word 2003 is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\STARTUP. Only if the folder C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\PDFMaker does not contain the add-in, should it be necessary to reinstall Acrobat. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org David French wrote: I have taken Adobe Acrobat training and the instructor there stated that Acrobat must always be installed LAST for those icons to appear. Ok, I looked for the PDFmaker file and it is in the word startup file.
I tried today to uninstall both the Acrobat and the woed and then reinstalled word first and then acrobat. I am still having the same problem (no acrobat icons in word). This is very frustrating and it seems a fairly common problem. Why has microsoft not recognized this and done something about it. I hold microsoft responsible here because the acrobat icon is on my excel program and power point but not in the word program. If you wish to address you question to Microsoft then you should so so -
this is a public forum and not a Microsoft staffed help desk. Microsoft has no control or responsibility for the production of (poor quality) add-ins produced by third party suppliers - and that from Adobe is badly written. However, the problem here remains that the add-in (pdfmaker.dot) should be located in the OFFICE start-up folder and that must be the correct Office folder for the Word version. Check the macro security is set to trust all installed templates and add-ins. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org tassmand wrote: Ok, I looked for the PDFmaker file and it is in the word startup file.
