Default different types of diagrams on different layers

Hello all,

I'd like to know if it's possible to have a flowchart
with all it's goodies on one layer and an org chart with
its goodies on another to create on overall document. I'm
new to visio. I created an org chart, added a new layer
and activated it. I then started putting flowchart
symbols on the new layer but the connectors looked
like "org chart" type connectors (i.e. they weren't
arrows). I tried altering the style of the connectors but
there was no option to turn them into flowchart type
flowlines I get when I ask Visio to create an actual
flowchart. What am I missing?

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

See the reply to your next post.

Generally, you set up connector preferences per-page. But you can select the
shapes you want to lay out, then choose Shapes Layout Page.

In the dialog you can choose Org Chart, Flowchart, Radial, etc styles of
laying out the selected shapes.

If no shapes are selected, then the whole page will get rearranged,
according to the last selected layout style. This is the danger: you'll
layout a group of shapes, then quickly layout a second group but forget to
change all of the settings...and boom, your flowchart guys will look like
the org charters...

Also, you can right-click individual connectors and change the way they look
to some extent as well....

A lot of Visio functionality and behavior is specific to a page, not a
layer. You might look into using background pages. Create two pages and
put one diagram type on each. Then under File Page Setup set on to be a
background page and the other to be a foreground page that uses the
background page. The result is a two diagrams on one page!
