In fact, all anyone need do to gain the truth is to search for "modest fee"
and "My fee is very reasonable".

If you decide to hire someone to help, you'll need to decide which approach
you'll want them to use in developing your application.

One approach to development tries to uncover all possible requirements
before coding starts. Any changes in the environment, funding sources,
technology, etc. could lead to "change orders". Any "oh, by the way, did I
mention...?" could lead to change orders. Any "we didn't cover this when we
laid out the requirements" could lead to change orders. Any "our
requirements have changed" will lead to change orders...

Another approach to development acknowledges that there's little chance of
uncovering ALL the requirements, before beginning and focuses instead on
which of the known requirements are most critical (i.e., highest impact
and/or greatest risk). By solving those issues first, the customer receives
something of value from nearly the start and can decide whether to pull the
plug on the project early on. Each iteration focuses on the most critical
requirements remaining, so the impact/risk goes down with each successive
iteration.

The former is something of a "pay now and pay later" approach. The latter
is something of a "pay as you go" approach.

If you use the former, the contractor you hire will have to 'pad' the job
cost estimate to ensure that those little surprises don't eat his/her
profit.

If you use the latter, you will have something of value after each
iteration. An "iteration" could be as brief as you decide (a couple hours,
a couple days, a couple weeks). It's a lot easier for both you and your
contractor to estimate how much it will cost to do a 2-day job than to try
to estimate a total job that could take 2 months.

Wow! One of the understood rules for these Access newsgroups is that
they are not for the solicitation of service (offers of work). If you
are a total newbie to them then you couldn't know that. Another
understood rule is that they are also not for offers of service for
hire. It used to be that there was only one persistent violator of
that second rule. He has very specifically offered his services for a
fee in this thread.

There are yet other rules and, in the evident spirit of the season, I
intend to break one myself: There will also be no free programming or
other free service delivered other than the posting of advice to those
who post issues.

I, too, sometimes discount my fees heavily for selected charities. I
do so in this case; Pro Bono.

If you can decode my email address and start a dialogue by sending me
the first cut of your requirements and your contact info then we can
explore the possibility of my helping you.

I guarantee nothing at the outset. Your requirements may exceed my
humble capabilities.

Jeff Boyce listed a few of the paradigms of terms for negotiating and
defining a project and setting terms. I'm one of the "hard case" type
of developer who works very hard with the client to get as much
defined and quantified as possible before any code is written. It's
worth taking the time to develop an understanding of your needs and
wishes and getting things quantified to the extent practical. Once we
are in agreement as to what we're doing, the specification will be
frozen. I will then confine my design to fulfilling the requirements
and there will be none of those things that might require "change
orders" allowed until that design is completed. No, not even that one
tiny little thing.

Once I submit a prototype or two for your evaluation you will likely
see things you would like to have differently or additionally. Do,
indeed, tell me what those things are and we'll both maintain lists of
things for "phase 2" or for the all encompassing "change order" to
follow. But nothing will be done on those late discoveries until our
original specification has been executed completely and evaluated by
you.

Those conditions are exactly the same as those I observe for contracts
where money is involved. I don't submit a bid until the specification
is "signed". That protects both parties.

My fee in this case will be $0.00 plus attribution.

This offer extends only to the original specification and to those
things we will have discussed and listed and agreed for follow-on
while the initial specification is being executed.

This is in anticipation of my 1st New Year's resolution to take on a
pro bono project for a worthy cause.

By the way, some venues that welcome postings of work for hire are
