Page number problem
I have a 360 page document but want the 4th page to be numbered as
page 1 with no numbers on the first 3 pages. I have Word 2007 but cannot work out how to do it. It only seems to give me the option of leaving the first page blank, not the first 3. I also want the last 3 pages to be un-numbered but can't work out how. Any help appreciated. -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |

Page number problem
Hi, Mary,
What you probably want are section breaks for the three distinct areas in your document--at the beginning of the numbered section (Page 1 nee 4) and at the beginning of the unnumbered section near the end. In the Page Layout ribbon tab, choose Breaks - Next Page to enter section breaks. This will give you a 3 section document: Section 1: 1 to 3, unnumbered Section 2: 4 to 357 (or so), numbered as 1 to 354 (or so) Section 3: 358 to 360 (or so), unnumbered To make the numbering independent, the next concept to grasp is that the header or footer where the numbers reside would need to be set so that Link to Previous is turned off. Go to Section 2, and in the Insert ribbon tab, click Footer (or Header, but page numbers usually are in the footer), Edit Footer. In the Navigation section, note that Link to Previous is turned on (by default). Click the Link to Previous to toggle it off. Then click Next Section, and toggle it off for Section 3, too. Having done that, you can now set up your numbering independently in the three document sections. This article explains the concepts, but doesn't give you Word 2007-specific instructions: http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Numbering/PageNumbering.htm -- Herb Tyson MS MVP Author of the Word 2007 Bible Blog: http://word2007bible.herbtyson.com Web: http://www.herbtyson.com "Mary" wrote in message ...
