Address Book Error
Hi,
I have a problem opening the contacts list on my installation of outlook 2000. Whenever I try to open the address book, or 'check names' I get: The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart outlook I have restarted outlook and the computer (XP pro SP1) a number of times, this all started after the machine hung at shutdown. Any suggestions as to where I should look would be appreciated. Regards, John |

This could be almost anything. Do some routine maintenance. You did not post
your mail support mode or information store. Assuming you are using a PST and Corp/Workgroup mode do the following: 1. Check your PST file for errors 2. Remove and re-add the Outlook Address Book Service 3. Run Detect and Repair -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "John Harman" wrote in message ... Hi Russ,
Sorry for the omission, it is in IMO mode, using a PST for the messages which appears to be fine, I've already tried detect and repair. I assume that the outlook address book service only applied to Corp/workgroup mode as this appears to use windows address book (john.wab) from some extra digging i've done. I notice that the windows address book on the start menu is also not working now so suspect that may be connected. Renaming the john.wab file doesn't make any difference. Any ideas? is there a windows address book newsgroup which this would be more appropriate to? Thanks for your help so far. -- Regards, John "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote in message ... IMO is a problem. You should have told me.
You cannot do any repairs to the address book in IMO. IMO does not use the WAB, it only uses the WAB engine from OE. Try the other maintenance first. If that doesn't work, you'll have to reinstall OE, not Outlook, after renaming the WAB32.DLL. Then disable and re-enable sharing of the Address Book in OE (not Outlook). -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "John Harman" wrote in message ...
