Default Custom Template Worksheet Location

I cannot for the life of me get my custom template
worksheet to show up in the same location as the default
xlt files. My PC is a company machine but my help desk
doesn't seem to be able to figure this out. I have located
where the xlstart folders are (all instances) and have
tried to copy my template into all of them with no luck. I
have also located where the default templates are located
such as invoice.xlt, expense statement.xlt etc. It is
c:\program files\microsoft office\templates\1033. But when
I copy my template there and then if I am in a workbook
and do a right click on the bottom tab and then select
insert - I still only see the 4 default files, not mine.
I was able to do this with Excel 98 but I just got my
machine changed out and now with 2000 I can't get it to
work! Help!

Default Custom Template Worksheet Location

I saw a post about 10 days ago referring to this very thing. I wish I
remembered who gave the response so I could give credit, but I don't even
know what newsgroup it was in. Anyway;
The reply was, it must be done from M.S. Word. Open M.S. Word, click tools,
click the file location tab, and edit the workgroup templates location in
the list to include a folder where your templates are located.
After this, close Word and Excel, reopen Excel and from this point on, when
you do a right click and choose insert, All sub folders under the folder you
added to the templates list will appear as a tab in the top of the insert
window.
It works this way for me anyhow.

I think I'd save a new workbook as a template file. (File|SaveAs and note the
folder.)

Or continue with the save letting excel decide where to put it, but call it a
nice unique name:

mytemplatefilethatIllfindlater.xlt

Then use windows start button|Find to search for this file (and then you'll have
the folder.

Folder locations can change between versions of excel/windows.

=====
You should be able to file|saveAs a template and create your new folder from
that SaveAs dialog. It worked for me (xl2002, though).

Try this location or whatever is similar on your machine.
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
Take care!
