I am trying to: qty * unit + flat. qty is in A2, unit is in D2, and flat is
in C2.
How do I write that formula?

I have Word 2000 and have only used it for mail merge letters. Calculations
in table is new for me.

Thank you.

Hi tphillips

You could use a formula field coded as {=A2*D2+C2}.

For more information on how to do calculations in Word, check out my Word Field Maths 'tutorial', at:

or

I put in my field {=A2*D2+C2}. Now what?

Can I send the document to you, you put it in (so it works) and send back.
I'm just not getting it to work.

Hi tphillips,

Did you use a field, or simply type the string in? You can't do the latter, as the field braces (ie '{ }') must be created in pairs
via Ctrl-F9 or Insert|Field.

I am desperate. I can not get this to work. Is there any one out there that
can fix my document? I will gladly send it to some one.

Hi tphillips,

I wonder if you're expecting too much from Word's formula fields. They will do the calculation OK but, unlike Excel, they don't
automatically update. For that, you need to select the field and press F9, or do something else to trigger the update, like a print
preview or printing the document, or using the calculation in a document protected for forms, where the values in A2, D2 and C2 are
obtained from formfields whose properties are all set to 'calculate on exit'.

Cheers
