Default How do I edit scanned TIFF documents?

I have a Brother all-in-one machine. It scans to a TIFF format.

I don't know how to scan a document and then edit it in Word (or any other program).

Windows Fax and Scan will "save as" TIFF, BMP, JPEG, GIF, PNG (I really don't know what all those file types are), but not as a DOC.

Any help would be appreciated.
