Default can't access outlook 2007

I have never used outlook on my computer before. I would like to start using
it, and am unable to access it. When I click on the icon, I get a message
that says "the connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must
be online or be connected to complete this action". Then I click OK and get
another window that asks for the Microsoft Exchange server and the mailbox.
Obviously I don't know the answer to this question, and I'm sure this has an
easy solution, but I don't know it! Any help would be much appreciated, as I
really need to start using the calendar!
Thank you!
