Modifying photos for digital printing on a b/w copier

I use P2000 to create a monthly newsletter. I will shortly be including photographs in our monthly newsletter. We print 175 copies and will print digitally from a pdf file I create to a b/w copier. People will be sending me digital photos to include in the newsletters. What do I need to do to prepare them so they will print at their best? Do I need to convert them to b/w from color? Change resolution? Other modifications? Size? They seem to print fine on my inkjet with no modifications.

Advance warning: Your file size will grow immensely after adding
photographs. This has to do with the way that Pub 2000 deals with photos.

You really shouldn't have to do too much to a photo. Don't convert them to
black and white - just let the printer do it's thing. If you make changes to
the resolution you are going to end up making matters worse. My
recommendation is just to insert the pictures unaltered. Others may disagree
with me but chances are you have enough work to do with your newsleeter
without adding to it.

If you do not have the excellent freeware Irfanview - get it.
www.irfanview.com
This will allow you to manipulate the images in a batch.
You can batch convert all the images down to one hundred and fifty DPI which
is the maximum resolution you need for printing. Depending if you have the
necessity to reduce file size dramatically, I would not bother converting to
B&W, however if you do, Irfanview will look after all your needs.

I highly recommend converting the images to grayscale and then importing
them, if you have a decent photo imaging program. Some color photographs
will turn out fine without converting, but if there is not a lot of
contrast, they can end up with blobs of gray/black/white. It's not time
consuming to do, but it is worth it.

I always convert mine to B&W first, as often you need to adjust the
brightness and/or contrast for decent results.
