Actually, it doesn't do that (convert to a graphic) unless you downloaded
and installed the prepress WordArt commerical registry fix. Otherwise,
WordArt from previous versions will be converted to the new WordArt, but
there will be formatting loss.

The only way this would have happened is if you installed the prepress patch
for Publisher 2002. This patch converts the WordArt to graphics so that the
WordArt doesn't lose it's formatting when a printer is given this file and
sending it to press. If you didn't run the reg fix, then your WordArt is
converted to the new Escher WordArt.

in the new Publisher.

Those of us who have been around for any period of time have come to know
about David's antics. The only reason I haven't kill-filed him is because
every now and then he actually does allow a glint of intelligence shine
thru. Unfortunately lately he has been on my case big time. He tries my
patience but I remind myself of the things I'm grateful for. Such as he's
halfway across the world from me, I don't have to deal with him or people
remotely like him on a personal basis, and there are some really terrific

So Publisher 2002 is far more difficult to use than Publisher 2000, merely
because of the WordArt?
The 2002 WordArt is far easier to use if you have used Word since version
97, but is a little different if you haven't (a couple of functions that
were available previously aren't now, but there are for more improvements
and additions than there are removals)
It might help you to learn your way around the new WordArt if you turn on
text labels on your WordArt toolbar. You can do this using the Customize
Toolbar functionality (something which couldn't be done in Publisher 2000)
