Default Moving pub. file from one computer to another

I am working on a four page newsletter on my home PC. I want to send it to
my work laptop. I usually do this by email. This file is too large to send
it by email according to AOL.

I tried burning it on to a CD, but my PC tells me that I don't have enough
space on my hard drive.

Can someone help me figure out what to do? Would I be able to save it on a
flash drive? Thanks for your help!

Sounds like you need a larger hard
drive...or...delete some unused files
and programs.

Yes, you can use a flash drive.

If all else fails...upload it to one of the
following sites and download it on your
other computer.

"SendSpace"

Is the file too large to send or are you actually being notified that the
mailbox is too full? How big is the file?

Are you using Publisher '03? Have you tried the FilePack and GoTake to
Another Computer... wizard?

I just used it on a 4 page NL & resulted in a 650K folder which should be
plenty small enough to email or definitely move to a USB drive with no
problem. Even with several hi-res graphics it should transport easily
enough. (I also embedded 4 fonts & 4 13MB TIFFs in it for a Pub file of
1.45MB on disk, Packed to 706K - surprised even myself :-}).

Certainly shouldn't choke up the HD - or are you trying to save directly to
a CD? That's a no-no. Use your CD-Burning software to copy the Pub file to a
CD (the same for a USB drive if you go that route). As long as it's a clean
disk you should have plenty of room for linked graphics, embedded fonts,
etc. - CDs hold about 650 MB, USB drives can go up in the gigs.

Then there's always file compression utilities, like WinZip, et. al.

Thanks for your help, John. I really appreciate it! The file is 16MB and it
is not completed yet. It'll be larger when I'm done so my concerns are just
beginning. I'll try uploading to a flash drive. I will need to purchase one
today. I hope that Publsiher's packing feature will allow me to do so. It
wouldn't allow me to do that when I tried to burn a CD.

Yes, I'll need to clean out my computer with unused programs and files. I
also told my husband when we purchased my computer a year ago that the hard
drive that he was purchasing was not big enough. He reluctantly listened to
me and purchased a larger one, but I should have spent the $ and bought a BIG
one.

At this point, I'll try to go to the links that you provided me. I'm in a
time crunch to get this project done in a few days so that is why I'm
stressing about not being able to copy the file to my work laptop.

I appreciate your help, John! Thanks again!

16MB is not an unusually large file.
Couldn't you save it to your hard drive
in the normal way as a .pub file and
use the software that came with your
burner to burn it on a CD?

Burning directly from Publisher is not
generally recommended.

Default Moving pub. file from one computer to another

Thanks for the information Cyber Taz! I sure learned a lot here!

When I try the FilePack and Go to save onto a CD, my computer tells me
that my I don't have enough space on my hard drive--and to remove unnecessary
programs and files.

My file is about 16MB and will get larger by the time I'm finished working
on it. I will try to use my CD burning software to copy the file onto a CD.
I didn't think about that. I thought that I could just copy directly from
Publisher.

If I go the Winzip route, I'll need to buy and install software. That's
okay, too, if it will work with my obvious technology-challenged
capabilities. What do you think about the uploading sites that John
recommended? I registered at one, but didn't get to try it out yet.

Thanks again! I really appreciate your help!

USB Flash drives (thumb drives, memory keys, whatever you like to call
them) are rather inexpensive these days, and can now hold files larger
than will fit on conventional CD media.

John and Cyber Taz:
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You two are wonderful! I just burned a CD
and was able to upload it onto my laptop! My burner has some glitches, but I
was finally able to burn something that worked. Thank you so very much!
Aloha!
