Default Migration: Outlook Express on old PC to Outlook (2003) on new Vist

I am trying to help a neighbour set up his new PC (Vista Home Premium).
He used Outlook Express on the old PC and wishes to use Outlook 2003 on the
new one.
How do we move his mail and addresses?

I have searched through countless MS articles supposedly talking about
migration yet all assume that OE and Outlook are on the same PC!!!
I find that astonishing as the time when most people make big software
changes is when they set up a new PC.

How do we export his mail from OE in a form that Outlook can import?
I have located his mail folder and can copy that, but Outlook refuses to
import it on the new PC.

Are we obliged to migrate via Windows Vista Mail? And what is the best
process for that.
This neighbour does not have a network, so there is no connection between
his old and new PCs.
Thanks.

You have to copy the entire OE Msg Store (identity?) and the WAB file
(address book) to the Vista PC, then import that into Windows Mail.
Then you install and configure Outlook (Having first ensured any Office
Trial & Activation assistant is uninstalled.
Close Outlook, in Windows Mail export Msgs & Contacts to Outlook (Exchange I
believe it says)

There may be more help via a Vista Mail group for the exact procedure for
importing OE msgs store to Mail

Thanks, DL.
We concluded that the only migration option was to Windows Mail, and we did
it successfully.
My neighbour then felt it was sufficient for his needs and Outlook was not
necessary.

I use Thunderbird in place of any of the MS email clients and so had no
experience of moving between the MS products.
