Default Can't open Outlook

Office Pro XP (2002) was just installed. We are trying to open Outlook to
access its Calendar & Contacts applications. We DO NOT want Outlook to be
our default email location (Outlook Express has been selected).

When we click on the Outlook icon (or open from the Programs folder), we get
the message: "Unable to open default email system. Try again."

When we "try again," we get the message: "Would you like to open default
File System folder?" When answering "yes," the "My Computer" files open in
Outlook. At the same time, we get the message: "Unable to start processing
server. Could not open item. Try again." Outlook remains with the "My
Computer" files.

When trying to access "Outlook Today" (or any other application), we receive
the message: "Could not open item. Try again."

All Office updates have been downloaded and installed. We have tried the
"repair" options in Office as well as uninstalled and reinstall the Office XP
Office Pro program. Except for Outlook, all other applications (Word, Excel,
Access, PowerPoint, Outlook Express) work fine.

Even when we configure a new email account with Outlook as the default
location, we cannot open Outlook Today, Calendar or Contacts (there are no
"shortcuts" shown for either Calendar or Contacts). At this time, the
Outlook application is not usable.

Our operating system is Windows XP SP2 on a Sony VAIO VGN-S469. The
Notebook is connected to a wireless home network.

Help!

Thank you,
Steve

Sounds like your profile is hopelessly corrupted. Create a new mail profile
under Control Panel-Mail Icon-Profiles-New. Configure that profile to
use your existing Outlook Data File (.pst).
