Default Problems with Sound from Gallery

My PowerPoint uses a 115kb sound from the Gallery.

It works on my computer, but not on my students'. I've changed the Link to
100kb settings on both computers and ...nothing.

We all have the same sounds. Why would there be an issue in this regard?

Also, how does the Sound Volume in the Effect Options work? I cannot
perceive any change from the top of the slider to almost the bottom. Does it
have to be a specific file type to work?

Thanks,

Arlen

What type of sound file are we talking about? The only files that get embedded, are .wav files, all others are linked, and must travel with the presentation.

It's a .wav file from the Clip Art gallery that all MS Office users should
have upon install.

Which version of PowerPoint is being used on both computers? Does that sound file play by it's self on your students computer? I would increase the link limit to the max 50000kb on both machines Raising the limit does not effect anything until you exceed the max amount set.

You have two issues. First, you said your sound is 115KB, but you
changed the sound setting to 100KB. What that means is that any sound
larger than 100KB (including yours) will be linked and not embedded. To
solve that, change the sound setting to something larger than 115KB (try
50,000KB).

Second, you described changing the sound setting, but it is hard to tell
from your description WHEN you changed the sound setting. If the sound
was already inserted, then the setting will have no effect. It will only
affect future sounds. To fix this, you must first change the sound
setting and then delete and re-insert the sound.

To answer one (but not your other) question, although the sounds on both
systems are the same, the paths to the sounds might be slightly
different. If a sound is linked, and the sound is not in the same folder
as the at PowerPoint, it will use the full path to the sound for linking
purposes. If that full path is not identical, it will not find the
sound. To avoid this problem with linked sounds, you can save the sound
file to the same folder as your PPT before you insert it.
