Default Excel Column Headings

I am using Excel 2002 and I just noticed after my last
software update that all the column headings ar now
numbers like the rows and the calculations are based on
the columns and rows being numbers e.g. cell A1 is now
R1C1, A2 is now R2C1, etc.. How do I get the Alpha
characters back?

Tools - Options - General tab, uncheck R1C1 reference
style; that should do it for you.
