Default Unable to open DBX files

Hi you all!
I recovered an Outlook Express folder (maybe OE 5.5) with its content, and I
am trying to import this folder in the Outlook Express 6.0 SP1 client. It
always says that there is no such folder available (the exact message is
:"No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running
that has the required files open. Please select another folder or try
closing applications that may have files open").
No app is running and maybe there's some corrupted file in the air...
Since I CAN SEE the DBX files of the sub-folders created under the INBOX and
elsewhere with their proper names, is it possible to open them or to restore
their content by another mean that the Import function of OE ?
Help greatly appreciated.
Nicolas

Thanks Steve for help.
I tried your trick (which is pasted underneath) with Outlook Express 6.0 SP1
(and not with OE 5.5 since I currently don't have this program on any
available machine).
It didn't work, unfortunately.
If you're pretty sure of the procedure, I may reinstall a machine with OE
5.5 only...

Nicolas

To backup and restore a single OE5 mail folder, save the appropriate dbx
file. To restore, create a new folder in OE5 (call it archiv1, for example)
and access it once. Then close OE and find archiv1.dbx and delete it. Make a
copy of the folder you want to restore and rename it to archiv1.dbx. Then
copy that file into the directory where the previous file was deleted. Open
OE and the messages you wanted to restore will be accessible via opening
that archiv1 folder.

It should work in any OE 5 / 6 version. Try DBXtract or DBXpress to =
extract the messages from the file and then drag them into a new folder.

Default Unable to open DBX files

Steve,

Thanks for your patience.

I tried DBXpress on my files :

1. "Something" happens (it shows some sort of progress) when I work it on
any DBX file.
2. Unfortunately, the output is empty. (Yes, I am sure of its location, and
the path, etc.).

I didn't try DBXtract since the tool is not free - and I am loosing hope,
somehow... Nonetheless, I shall be glad to pay for it - if it's really
helpful in my case.
So, can you please just validate this last point for me on running your tool
on one of my DBX files? It would be great...
The files are located here (they are not confidential and can be seen as
test files ):

http://macarez.free.fr/OE/

You've got two files : a small one (Claire.dbx) and a bigger one (Amis.dbx).
You can download them by right-clicking on them and doing Save as...

Again, a huge thanks for your help.

Nicolas

I think you have DBXtract and DBXpress confused, Nicolas. DBXtract is
(currently) free though Dr. Cochran kindly asks for a donation. DBXpress is
$49.95. No, wait, it's on *sale* for only $24.95! Such a deal.

Hopefully you do understand that Dr. Cochran, like everybody else here,
including MVPs, is volunteering his time to patiently assist you. Dr.
Cochran makes his living selling these applications. I personally find it
unseemly that you'd ask him to test his application on one of your DBX files
for free.

Robear,
Yes, you're right. I got confused between the two products.
As I said, in my previous mail, if I had just the slightest conviction that
DBXPress would solve my problem, I would gladly send a donation ($49.95,
$24.95 or whatever... - I am not in search of a "deal", but trying
desperately to solve a great trouble for one my clients).
So, if Steve can spare five minutes of his precious time to run his tool on
my files and tell me what's going on, it would be nice...
Regards,
Nicolas
