Windows XP Picture and Fax viewer :
Ii is not possible to create new files.
It is not possible to insert new pages.
It is not possible to insert (import) pages (files) you already have.
It is not possible to edit *.jpg files (text boxes, marker, ...)
It is not possible to import documents via scanning (TWAIN)

Most of these items are possible in MODI, but, as I wrote, MODI can't handle
my existing files
and
it is not possible to convert files from Windows XP Picture and Fax viewer
to MODI. (Strg + E)
The file suffix will not show, wether this is a file editable in MODI, in
Windows XP Picture and Fax viewer or Imaging.
All this together is the point why I wrote 'format confusion': why doesn't
MS make the old files compatible to MODI? I gues for 'political reasons'.
Have a look he

You may buy the 'new Imaging' for only (!) 125 ?.

MODI is an Office 2003 application that was in no way intended to
replace the imaging editing capabilities that used to be bundled with
the OS prior to Windows XP. I doubt you'll be able to do what you want
without using third party applications.

Meanwhile I do believe, you're right.
Thanks for your patience.

FWIW, I found the following information in another group and I have NOT
tested it, use at your own risk:

-----------
Using Imaging for Windows after Upgrading to Windows XP

If you have upgraded to Windows XP from Windows 95 OSR2, 98, NT 4 or 2000,
you can still use the Kodak Imaging for Windows applications and ActiveX
controls if you can access the files listed below. If you installed XP to
another folder, thus preserving your previous Windows version, or if you can
re-install your previous version of Windows on another partition or
computer, you can copy the files to a safe directory and register the
ActiveX controls as described below. If you have not yet upgraded to Windows
XP, I suggest archiving copies of these files in a separate location before
performing the upgrade.

Copy the following files from the \Windows\System directory (\System32 in NT
or 2000):
IMAGEHLP.DLL
IMGADMIN.OCX
IMGCMN.DLL
IMGEDIT.OCX
IMGSCAN.OCX
IMGSHL.DLL
IMGTHUMB.OCX
OIADM400.DLL
OICOM400.DLL
OIDIS400.DLL
OIFIL400.DLL
OIGFS400.DLL
OIPRT400.DLL
OISLB400.DLL
OISSQ400.DLL
OITWA400.DLL
OIUI400.DLL

Copy these files from \Windows\Help:
IMGVIEW.CHM
IMGHELP.CNT
IMGHELP.GID
IMGHELP.HLP
IMGOCXD.CNT
IMGOCXD.GID
IMGOCXD.HLP
IMGTASKS.CHM

(If the .GID files don't exist, they will be created when you use the
corresponding .HLP files.)

Copy these Kodak application files from \Windows:
KODAKIMG.EXE
KODAKPRV.EXE

These are all the ones I know about; there may be others. If you find any
other files whose property sheets label them as Wang or Eastman Software,
you might want to copy them too, just in case.

After you install Windows XP, you will need to register the ActiveX controls
(OCX files). The easiest way is to use the Start | Run facility and execute
the statement:

regsvr32 c:\imaging\imgadmin.ocx

(Of course, substitute the path where you archived your files.)

Repeat this for each of the four OCX files listed above.

Hal,
I had a look around the last days and I found a similar solution.

http://toolsandmore.de/Central/Produ...-Tools/IFW-XP/

I did it and it is runnig well - as I have old Win systems not in use any
more.
But first I thought, MS should deliver a reliable solution if they are going
to changing file-formats.
If you can nowadays inport dos.formated textes to word, I thought the same
for Imaging.
Wrong.
