Convert hours and minutes into minutes
Could someone please assist in a formula that will convert
hours and minutes (in the same cell eg 3:40) into minutes eg 220. Wondering if the hours will need to be in one cell and the minutes in another? Thanks. Jackie |

Convert hours and minutes into minutes
Jackie,
Try the following formula: =A1*24*60 where A1 contains the hours and minutes. Format the cell as General or numeric. For lots more information about working with dates and times in Excel, see www.cpearson.com/excel/datetime.htm .. -- Cordially, Chip Pearson Microsoft MVP - Excel Pearson Software Consulting, LLC www.cpearson.com "Jackie Parker" wrote in message ... You will probably need to format the result cell as General (or number) after entering the formula, as Excel will (unhelpfully) format it as time. Excel stores times as fractions of 1 day. This is why you have to multiply by 24 to get number of hours, and then by 60 to get minutes. |
