Default ctrl s not working

when I try to use the control S to save a document in word 2003 it no longer
works. I have tried doing a repair and reinstallation of the application.
It is not the keyboard as I have changed it out. When I try to use the
customize keyboard and put control s in so it will save - still does not
work.

Can you save using the other alternatives (such as File Save, or
Shift-F12, or Alt-Shift-F2; or closing an unsaved document), or does
Saving simply not succeed at all?
