decided to be brave (I could always delete the Primo

the driver and changed it to "primomon95.dll"

Reinstalled the program and.... IT WORKS! (I'm excited
about it, I never had a program to change to pdf before.)

I went to copy the instructions here in case someone
puts it in search someday, and noticed the person said it
changed another file to the Win XP one and he had to
restore it. I'm still not at the point where I understand
a lot of this, and not sure if this happened with mine or
not. Maybe the primo installation no longer does this.

Hope it's okay to put a quote from another board on
here, but wanted it complete "for the archives".

Thanks for all the help, now I can make pdfs and have
new programs (the serif ones I also downloaded- one for
drawing and one for 3D I spent hours trying to make
something useful with last night (LOL) I finally got an
animated 3D, of shapes, but nothing I can think of to do
with it. But, it's fun and never know when it might be
useful. A 3D type graphic might be good for other things,
too.

So much to learn and do. At some point it has to come
together in some way (to be of use)

quote from board about putting in PrimoPDF with Win 98
and 98SE

Just a warning, on Win98 the installer overwrites my
msvcirt.dll file with a WinXP version that doesn't work.
You may want to back it up first. I had to restore it
with the sfc utility.

1. Install the program normally.

2. Copy the primomon95.dll and primomon.hlp files from
the C:\Program Files\activePDF\PrimoPDF\primomon
directory into the C:\Windows\System directory.

3. Add this entry to the registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro
l\Print\Monitors\PrimoMon]
"Driver"="primomon95.dll"

4. Repeat step 1.

After re-installing, I had a working PrimoPDF printer on
both Win98 and WinME.

I hope the installer gets fixed soon, but this seems to
work in the meantime. Hope this helps.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Way-to-go on finding the solution!

Thanks for the update, I'm happy to
know you can use the program now.

As for quoting the message from the
other source, I don't expect it would be
a problem but it's usually a good idea
to cretit the source/author.

Okay, I put the link in an earlier post in this thread. I copied it out
of a post from there, just to have it clear if anyone else is looking (here)
for an answer about this.

It's from:

You're just been reading posts by the spelling police (LOL)

I knew what you meant and I'm sure everyone else reading it did, too.

A small suggestion:
Trim off the excess - it saves time scrolling and also saves bandwidth (I
know for a fact that some folks access the Microsoft newsgroups over a
cellular connection and pay by the byte)

Okay, I used to do that on another newsgroup I'm on and some would say they
didn't know what I was talking about if it wasn't all on there to read
(LOL) I'm sure there's a happy medium in this.

I keep waiting for someone to say I'm getting off topic

Oh, there is :-)

I tend to keep enough to be able to work out what the question I'm answering
is if the readers aren't threading their view or are hiding older posts -
not enough so that the entire discussion can be reconstructed from the one
post.

We all know it, but we don't really mind. Off-topic sub-threads are
completely different to off-topic OPs, and even those are normally OK if you
acknowledge that you are aware that this isn't quite the correct newsgroup.

Default More Primo problems

I tracked down the answer, it has to do with installing it with Win 98 and
98 SE (which I have) and posted the solution to it, at the bottom of this
thread.

I wouldn't have guessed that was the problem, I'd have thought I did
something wrong or didn't have it downloaded correctly, or something.

Now, if anyone else has the problem with it- though probably not many
still have Win 98, we have the solution. Unless PrimoPDF does something to
change it. Probably not because this is an older Win and everyone is

moving
on.

Learn something new everyday. If it wasn't for all the boards and
people helping and sharing, it would be a lot harder...

I got the Primo to work, to save a a pdf, but didn't realize till
today the printer no longer worked.. I had it set on the menu to print (not
pdf) In settings- printers, it was grayed out.

I found this out when I had to print out a fax I got in for someone
else. I took the Primo out, finally had to go take the files out of Systems
(the directions for installing Primo with Win 98 said to put in). Finally
got the printer to install (Lexmark 5150 all in one) but the all in one
center isn't there. Where I'd normally open it to use it to scan or fax
from it. I've been taking the software out and putting it back in since.
When I click on the link (from before) for the all in one center the
flashlight comes up and says it can't locate the lxbaaiox.exe file (weird
name but that's what it looks like)

I had a newer driver/sofware I got from online once, and I used that
before, and tried it again and the same.

I ran system file checker (Windows) and it didn't say anything was
missing. The entry I put in the registry seems to be gone (must have come
out with the primo). I probably should have left that in and tried
reinstalling the Lexmark again with it in, but I needed to print something
and thought that would be the way.

At least the printer now works and tomorrow is another day

Default More Primo problems

I have my printer back working okay, I tracked down solutions, which
involved downloading and replacing files the Primopdf2 corrupted.

What I think the problem is (from reading other boards and webistes-
others having the same problems I did) version 2 doesn't work with Win 98
(or Win 98 SE) Someone found a fix for this (putting files in Systems and
adding a reg key) which gets it to work, show up on the printer box, but the
printer then doesn't work. And another file
MSIMG32.DLL is corrupted and needs to be replaced. I don't know if anyone
got PrimoPDF2 working with Win 98 AND the printer working as it should.

From what I've learned (but haven't tried) there's an older version
PrimoPDF version 1 that works with Windows 98 and earlier. I don't know if
they have it available on the Primo site. But, I think they should have a
warning on about what version 2 does with Windows 98.

I wanted to add this to the thread to finish up the info about it. Maybe
it's just a bug they will be fixing, if and when they're aware of it. The
posts on the boards I read went back a few months, so it's been like this
for awhile. And, not just the printer I have (Lexmark) but others with other
brands had the same thing happen. As far as I know, just with Win 98 and
98SE.
