Default page numbering w/ roman numerals

I've got a document that has several pages at the beginning that don't have page numbers. Then it starts with roman numerals, then arabic numerals. I've used continuous section breaks with page breaks to break between each of these sections. The document is set for different odd and even headers and footers, and page numbers are going in the footers. The second section is beginning on an even page, when it should be on an odd, and the page number for that first page of the section is ii instead of i. Normally, I would get around this by setting the page numbering to start at zero, but the program won't allow it with roman numerals. The section start option in page layout is set to continuous. I don't know what else to try. HELP!

Okay, so I did a little more experimenation, and using next page section breaks instead of a continuous section break with a page break seems to fix the problem. Now, can anyone tell me why that works?

It sounds as if the Continuous break was not needed.
