Default Page Numbering, X of Y, where Y includes total # of continuous Sections

I am working in a legal master document. I have several sections throughout the contract (cover page, table of contents, main contract, Schedule A, Schedule B, etc.). I would like to format the page numbering for the first 3 sections (cover page, TOC and main contract) to include page X of Y - whereby Y represents the TOTAL number of Pages for the first 3 sections(excluding the Schedules). It appears that I am not able to "stop" the formatting of the "Y" field at the end of the contract section. I understand I can number X of Y for EACH section -but I must include the first 2 sections in the numbering format as well. As currently formatted, the Y ends up including the total number of pages of the entire document including the Schedules as well which is what I'm trying to avoid. I either have to number the entire document or number sections only - is there any way to number various sections (but not all)?

Any help out there is most appreciated?

Place a bookmark at the end of the third section and use a cross reference
to the page number of the bookmark for Y
