Default outlook 2003 not showing auto complete addresses

Just recently set up 2003 outlook on my new computer. I also had it on my
old one and when i went to write an email and clicked on TO: it would bring
up auto complete addresses for me to choose. It doesnt do that on the new
one and am wondering why. Is it something it must learn before it will work
or is there a setting in option or something. Please advise of any help you
can give me. I did see a setting in options under advanced email option,
suggest names when completing to:,bcc ... fields and it is on.

The autocompletion cache won't be populated until you send enough messages.

Not true. CLicking on To brings up the Outlook Address Book, not the
autocompletion data. Typing directly in the To field is what brings up the
autocompletion data. The autocompletion data is not connected to your
contacts in any way whatsoever.

It doesnt do that on the new one and am wondering why.

Russ explains it for the autocompletion data, but since you say "click on
To", perhaps you're not really speaking of the autocompletion data at all,
but of the address book. Perhaps you can elucidate.

You are right you do not click on the TO: it is when you start to type your email address, it is the auto complete that I am wondering about. Did not realize that it had nothing to do with the contacts in your list. So is this something that it learns on its own?????

Yes, it is a history of up to the last 1,000 addresses to which you've sent
a message. Each time you compose a mesage and the address gets resolved
(i.e., when the underline appears), that address (and its display name) get
added to the autocompletion cache. Here's an explanation:
