Errors when inserting video
I'm making a moderately large presentation (66 slides, lots of photos)
that includes 5 video clips, (all .mpg). Initially, it ran fine, but then the video clips stopped working, even when all the files involved are in their original locations. The first frame of the videos still show up in the slides, but the video won't play. I'm using PP 2002. So I have tried to re-do the slides in question, but now when I attempt to insert the videos either by clicking the video icon in a content frame, or using the pull-down menu item, "insert video from file" I get the same error. The error reads, "Power Point couldn't insert a movie from the selected file. Either the file is non-standard, or Quick Time is not installed properly." When I try to drag and drop, the handles of the video frame show on the slide, but no picture. When I double click the slide, I get the message, "You are about to activate an inserted object that might contain viruses or otherwise be harmful to your computer. Make sure the object is from a trustworthy source. Do you want to continue?" If I click yes, the video plays in Media Player! The files all play in Media Player or in other players. I've run several virus checkers and spyware checkers, and fixed the problems identified. I've re-loaded Office. I've updated Windows. I've made a version of the presentation without the videos, but it would be more effective with them. I need to use this presentation maybe 30 times in the next 3 months, so you can guess that I'm pulling my hair out. My only plan now is to copy the files to someone else's computer, and try to rebuild the presentation there, then burn it to a CD. Any ideas how to make it work on my machine? |

Not all videos will play in PowerPoint on all machines. One of the reasons is
that PowerPoint hands off the file to Windows to play. Windows uses the MCI player, not Windows Media Player. If the file won't play in the MCI player it won't play in PowerPoint . Depending on your version of Windows, you can test the file in the MCI player by going to Start Run and typing mplay32.exe (Win XP or 2000) or mplayer.exe (Win 98 or ME). Open the file in the play and see whether it will run. If it doesn't, then it is likely that the problem is your MCI settings or the codec used to render the file. See http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorial...multimedia.htm for detailed info on the above. Also see http://www.echosvoice.com/tshoot_video2.htm for further troubleshooting. -- Sonia Coleman Microsoft PowerPoint MVP Team Autorun Software, Templates and Tutorials "Andy" wrote in message om... You might also want to check if you have installed any movie/video editing
software recently such as muvee autoproducer or some of sony sonic foundary products. They contain a third party codec called Mainconcept filter which interferes with Microsofts aging mci player (mplay32) \\ lost? "Andy" wrote in message om...
