List special indentation
After setting the left indentation at 0 cm. and selecting hanging special
indentation by 1 cm for a list bullet or list number style, I find that the hanging special indentation will constantly change back to 0.63 cm. For example I may be creating an exam paper, with numbered questions (style list 1 - 1, 2, 3 etc) and multi-choice options for each question (style list 2 - a, b, c ). Every time I choose to restart list 2 back at a., the hanging special indentation has changed back to 0.63 cm. Similar instability of indentation settings occurs with bullets. Is there any way to keep indentation settings fixed for these list styles? |

List special indentation
How are you setting the indentation? Note that with numbered paragraphs, it
will be easier to specify the indents via the numbering dialog box (as opposed to via the Paragraph dialog). If you are using Word 2003, see http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numb...Numbering.html for more. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Alex B" wrote in message ... Hi Stefan - thanks for your reply. I am using Office 2007 so I assume it is
Word 2007. The document file type is *.docx. Sorry, but I'm not sure what you are asking about paragraph numbering. I've never used paragraph numbering intentionally although it may be set without my knowledge. If I am using a list bullet or list number style, I choose modify styleformatparagraph - then under indentation I select a distance for left indentation and then in the box under special I choose "hanging" and then a distance (usually 1 cm). I then click okay and step back out of the boxes back to the document. It is this hanging indentation figure that seems to change. If you are using a numbered or bulleted style, you are in fact using
paragraph numbering (sometimes referred to as auto numbering). Note that it is recommended that you make use of the Adjust List Indents dialog box to change the indentation for such styles. Right-click the paragraph, choose Adjust List Indents from the context menu, and set the desired indents. When you are done, click OK. Then update the style by right-clicking again, choosing Styles | Update style name to Match Selection. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Alex B" wrote in message ...
