HUGE Powerpoint; realatively small amount of data

I have a Powerpoint that is 18 slides, contains less than
30 jpegs and gifs (the largest of which is around 50 KB --
most are less than 15 KB), has no movie or audio files.
However, this Powerpoint is nearly 100 MB in size. What is
going on???

I've saved a copy of this Powerpoint as an HTML page so
that it would be possible to view the size of each
component. About five of the jpegs have been duplicated as
pngs at nearly 5 MB apiece. That accounts for about a
fourth of the size (why are these pngs here?). The main
culprit appears to be a file named "oledata.mso". This
file accounts for over 73 MB.

What is the purpose of oledata.mso, how did it get into the
Powerpoint, and how do I remove it?

Any assistance in this is greatly appreciated.

How did you 'insert' the images into the presentation in the first place?
Going by the description, it appears your images have been inserted as OLE
objects which accounts for the increased file size and a 73 MB oledata.mso
confirms it. oledata.mso stores OLE object information for the objects
present in the presentation when you save the file as HTML. The 5 MB PNGs
are the images that used to represent the OLE objects in the presentation.

You will need to use the Insert | Picture | From file... command to avoid
this file bloat in the future.

When I save as a web page, it opens up as a web page. Where do I go to view
the file details...? Or am I missing something....
