Problem with "file as" field, I think
I create a new contact.
When I got to my view, any view, the contact appears as "blank" because the view does not recognize the "file as" field. If I view by "phone list", the "File as" field is blank. Two days ago, I exported my contacts on on my business computer (Outlook 2003) to an excel file because I wanted to put it onto my personal computer (Outlook 2003). When I imported the excel file into my Contacts, I got all the contact information, but when viewing the contacts in "as detailed address card", they all appeared as blank. This started by problem. I have spend three days searching the net, but cannot find any solution. Please help? TomK6 ps, I even ran "detect and repair", restarted, but no help |

Not sure why you are surprised nor why you couldn't find the answer. It is
common knowledge here that exporting and importing are the worst way to transfer Outlook data. There is never any reason to do so. Doing so through a non-Outlook format makes no sense whatsoever. A great deal of data is lost when you do so, including all derived fields like the File As... field. Did you happen to back up your data file? Do you still have access to it so you can transfer your data correctly? -- Russ Valentine "TomK6" wrote in message ... I create a new contact. Problem with "file as" field, I think
Your description of your problem is just a little confusing.......
#1 - "I create a contact..........appears as blank" ........so this occurs even with a new contact manually created? #2 - "Imported the Excel file .........got all my contact information" ..........so all the data you expected to find exists in the contact item? #3 - "when viewing ............... views are blank." .......so this is strictly related to views? Importing from an Excel file does not affect your views - while that may have occured at the same time you started having your "view" problem, seriously doubt that importing had anything to with it on its own, would bet on it. When importing data via the Outlook wizard, the FileAs field is automtically filled in based on the values found in the Full Name and/or Company fields when the contact item is created (there was data mapped to those fields correct?) Perhaps this link will help you get back on track.... http://outlook-tips.net/beginner/resetview.htm Would also suggest that you run ScanPST on your PST file to ensure that were/are no underlying problems with the PST file Karl __________________________________________________ ____ Karl Timmermans - The Claxton Group ContactGenie - Importer/DataPorter/Exporter/Toolkit "Contact import/export/data management tools for Outlook '2000/2007" http://www.contactgenie.com "TomK6" wrote in message ...
