Copying email accounts to a new profile

Hi,

I just upgraded to Outlook 2003 and also subscribed to a public hosted MS Exchange service (Mailstreet.com). I created a new profile for MS Exchange on Mailstreet. I can open my existing profile into the same window, but I don't have access to my old email accounts unless I open Outlook with my old profile.

Is there a way to copy my email account from my old profile into the new profile, rather than re-enterring all the information?

Also, if I open my POP3 email accounts into the Exchange inbox, and then drag the items into the Personal Folder from my old profile -- 1) do those messages ever really get onto the Exchange server (or are they only in the Inbox "locally")? and 2) once moved, are they stored permanently locally, and removed from the Exchange inbox?

What type of accounts are the old ones? if they are pop/imap/hotmail, you
can add them to the profile.

Not easily. It's better in the long run to recreate it.

Diane - thanks for the response. Here is some more information:

Old setup: Outlook 2002, 3 separate POP3 emails accounts, each created twice - once for home access (no firewall) and once for office access (behind firewall).

New Setup: Outlook 2003, Mailstreet hosted Echange Server - Loging directly into Exchange Server, and able to use web access.

Essentially, I have the Exchange email solution simply in order to get access to the hosted Blackberry BES -- I never intend to use the email account or the 100MB disk space. However, since my Blackberry is syncronizing via the Exchange Server, my Calendar and Contacts have to be on the Exchange Server. So, I open the Mailstreet Exchange Server Profile, and the File--Open--.pst forlder.

What I really want to do is get rid of my old profile, use just the Mailstreet Profile, but -- and this is the kicker -- I don't want any email messages to ever reside on the Exchange server - I want everything stored locally only. My thinking was to re-create the POP3 aemail accounts in my Exchange Profile, and then save the messages into the subfolders I created on my old profile.

Question is - will messages I download from POP3 accounts be copied onto Exchange Server, and if so, will they be removed once I store them locally. I would like to limit the amount of bandwidth required to load all my emails to the remote Exchange Server, and also maintain maximum security by keeping everything locally only.

Does this make any sense at all? Is there an easier/less convoluted way of achieving the same result?

ok... you are pretty much right on for what needs done...

Create the pop accounts in the new profile - or create the exchange account
in the pop profile. Set the exchange account as default and make sure the
mailbox is set as the default data store. If need be, find your current
pst's and open them via File, Open, Outlook data store. (You really only
need one pst, but that's for another day. )

Now you have the exchange account and the pop accounts in one profile, along
with the exchange mailbox and the old pst's. The pop messages will be put on
the exchange server - unless you use rules to move them to other folders.
Create one or more rules to move all new messages to the pst - do this by
creating a rule with no condition - if you sort the accounts to different
folders or psts, the only condition will be received on account name. Note
that you won't have the junkmail feature in Outlook 2003, since it runs
after rules move messages.

Now... your contacts and calendar are stored on the server, and your mail is
local.
