Performing math functions on table entries
Step away from the keyboard! You are trying to "commit spreadsheet".
1. Unlike a spreadsheet cell, you can not do calculations in a table field. The datasheet view looks like a worksheet, but it is not. Tables store data. Period. 2. As Access doesn't support table-level triggers, you can't have it populate another field with data based on another previous field while typing in data. 3. You could do this using a form HOWEVER storing derived data in a table is usually a very bad idea. It's better to do the math as needed in a query, form, or report. I highly suggest getting some relational database training or reading "Database Design for Mere Mortals" by Hernandez before proceeding any further on this database. -- Jerry Whittle, Microsoft Access MVP Light. Is it possible to set up a functioin on the field so it calculates the end number for me? For example, I have a number field that will need to be multiplied by 6. So, can I set up an input mask for a number field that will multiply my entry by 6 and store that in the table? Field Name Data Type CAC Number CFU of yeast grown on Chromagar candida I want to enter a number in the table and for it to be multiplied by 6. Thanks. |
