Default Captions for Pictures

I have Word 2003. I have to be doing something wrong! I
insert a photo and get it in the right position. Then I
insert a caption. This shoudl be so straightforward. I
have spent a half hour trying to get that caption under
the picture so I can group them together. Why does Word
think I want the caption at the bottom of the page?
Wouyldn't it presuppose that I want it linked to teh photo
for which I said INSERT CAPTION? Then as if from hell,
when I try nudge the caption goes left off teh page
whether I nudge right or left. Shoudl I have to set aside
my mornings to add a caption to a document?

Generally speaking, graphics and captions are much easier to deal with if
they are in line with text. Insert the graphic in a text paragraph,
formatted as "Keep with next," then insert your caption, which will also be
an ordinary text paragraph. If you *must* wrap text around the graphic,
select both graphic and caption and frame them using the Insert Frame button
on the Forms toolbar.
